State Farm Driver’s Roadside Preparedness & Winter Drivings Safety Tips

Winter driving is NO joke in Alaska. Between the extreme weather conditions, bad road conditions, and wildlife that sometimes find their way crossing the roads while you’re on them, you can bet that it’s super important to be prepared in the event you find yourself stuck on the side of the road. Not being prepared in some cases can lead to serious consequences, maybe even death because there are certain parts of Alaskawhere you could be stuck off road  in the middle of winter for an unknown determined amount of time before help arrives.  It is essential that all drivers need to put together a trunk safety kit so that if you ever find yourself stranded on the side of the road, you have all the necessary supplies to stay safe until you’re rescued.

A recent survey by State Farm® and KRC Research found that 2/3rds of drivers (67 percent) had some sort of “junk” (non-emergency supplies) in their trunk ranging from shoes to toys to used food or drink containers. While nearly all drivers (96 percent) had at least one emergency item in their vehicle, such as a spare tire or jumper cables, a mere five percent carried all the emergency roadside equipment, including jumper cables, spare tire, hazard triangle/road flares, flashlight, first aid kid, windshield scraper, water, non-perishable food and a blanket.  Check out the Driver’s Roadside Preparedness Infographic below to read more statistics.
