While I am still a couple months away from having my sixth child, it’s never too early to start thinking about safety precautions and measures to help protect the new baby from certain dangers in the home. I live in a 3 story home that includes 2 flights of stairs and one of my first priorities to install safety stair gates for each stairway. I just can’t imagine anything happening to any of my children and any preventive precautions I can take now, will help ease my mind and help prevent unnecessary accidents.
I know what you’re thinking, a little baby won’t be mobile for quite awhile yet. While that’s true, it’s amazing how time sneaks up on you and I don’t want to be dashing around last minute to put them up when he’s already on the move. Not to mention, a big reason why they’re super important for me to put up right away is that I don’t have a bedroom door and it will help discourage some of the little ones to disturb him while he is asleep in his bassinet in my bedroom. Otherwise, I fear the poor baby will never get to rest with such overly attentive big sisters!
While I’m comfortable with child training so that I don’t have to child proof our entire home, I really like the extra assurance I have with safety stair gates installed. It’s one less thing that I have to be aware of at all times and can stand to be worry free about during our busy day. When you have a large homeschooling family, the last thing you want to concern yourself over is a baby making his way towards a steep flight of stairs and with safety stair gates installed, that worry will be a thing of a past! What about you? What do you find important when it comes to baby proofing your home?

I only worry about the stairs. I think people are crazy about baby- proofing and end up creating a child that has no sense of independence .
A child needs to fall down, get hurt, and bruised. This is what it means to be alive.
Stairs are always a big concern when making sure baby is safe. My sister is going through her house now because her baby is going to be crawling and moving around really soon and I think we need to get on the floor and crawl around and look at all the places where baby can get, and make sure to get all things up off the ground.
