May is National Skin Care Awareness Month and there’s no better time to think about how to best protect you and your family’s skin during the upcoming Summer months when the sun’s rays are shining down the most.  Skin cancer is not only devastating to the person who has to struggle daily with the disease, but it also profoundly affects their families and friends too.  Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States and yet, there are many ways to help combat against it.  Melanoma, one of the most aggressive types of skin cancer, has been reported to be linked to sun burns.  Making sure you’re fully protected during the sun’s peak hours as well as during the days when the clouds take over the sky will highly increase your odds against contacting a sun burn and damaging your skin, which could result in skin cancer.

During the Summer, preventative measures like staying inside during peak hours can really make a difference.  If you have to venture outside, donning a sun hat, wearing sun glasses, and keeping slathered with sunscreen will be most beneficial to your skin.  Keeping hydrated from the inside on out is also just as important to help keep your cells in your body in tip top condition.  Getting your daily required water requirements can do a lot in protecting your skin from the damaging UV rays that can contribute to cancer.  All these little things add up to help shield your skin from the sun and together can help build the best defense against skin cancer!
