Meet the Company:
The idea for Hot Mama Gowns was born at the same time my daughter was born, in May of 2006! After having an awesome pregnancy and a pretty swift, uncomplicated delivery I had the clarity to really evaluate my surroundings — namely the itchy, chemical smelling, faded hospital gown I was wearing. I couldn’t wait to change into something that was comfortable — but pajamas weren’t really an option right after delivery — so I started to brainstorm what I wanted, and what would make me feel good. Since I try to eat as much organic food as possible, why not design an organic hospital gown; what better fabric for my newborn to be laid on seconds after birth than something from the Earth, that’s natural…but I didn’t want it to be boring or look like a generic hospital gown. I also wanted to design it so breastfeeding could be easy and I could remain covered while doing it (countless visitors at all times — I needed to be prepared for anyone and everyone walking in!) and so after two years of scribbling down notes several times a week and buying a sewing machine and creating proto-types I decided to get this Hot Mama idea going! And here we are today!
Through the Mom Trials: As I’m approaching my due date, I got to thinking about what I’d need to pack for the birth center I’ll be delivering at. One of the things that stuck out the most was a delivery gown and after having four kids, I wanted a special one that would be practical, comfortable, and fashionable. Yes, I know labor is messy, but I knew that a pretty hospital gown would help me to feel more empowered in the birthing room than a regular, long shirt would. I was introduced to Hot Mama Gowns by a fellow blogger and I fell in love with the beautiful and organic maternity hospital gownsthat were creatively designed by owner, Deidrea Haysel!
All the designs are chic and it was difficult to choose a favorite, but I eventually picked out the Cynthia Hot Mama Gown that is adorned with a lavender, green, and brown floral print. Within a few days, I got my Hot Mama Gown delivered to my doorstep and it was packaged in a swanky hot pink and black gift box for a gorgeous presentation that’s ideal for gift giving. Of course, as soon as it arrived, I couldn’t wait to try my new organic hospital gown on. Hot Mama Gowns are not only nice to look at, but offer many convenient and useful functions for birthing and beyond.
I have been wearing the maternity gown as a nightgown for the past month now and the cozy, organic cotton material is extremely soft next to my skin and is so comfortable to wear as my tummy grows. Even through multiple washings, the fabric gets softer and has a more luxurious feel. I like the assurance and confidence I get from putting it on, knowing that there are no harmful chemicals or dyes in the gown and that you won’t have to be worried they’ve been bleached prior to wearing it. Hot Mama Gowns are available in your pre-pregnant size from XS (2-4) to XXL (22-24) and being a size 0-2 prior to being pregnant, I found that the XS fits just right! Instead of looking like I’m wearing an over-sized muumuu, the gown graciously accents my feminine pregnant form and makes me feel more womanly and is more modest than a generic, sterile hospital gown.
The gown has ribbon tie panels under the bust of the gown so you can customize the fit and allows you to expose each breast individually for discreet nursing. Under the top panels are snaps for a more tailored fit if needed. I love that the gown has short sleeves and is long enough to reach the middle of my calf as I tend to get the shivers during labor. The whole back side of the gown snaps so you won’t be left with your back side exposed and yet they’re easy to undo if your doctor, nurse, or midwife needs access. I can’t wait to try my gown out during labor and share my experience with you. I have been so impressed with my Hot Mama Gown that I bought another one because I know that I’ll be wearing them long after labor and delivery as a nursing nightgown that both my baby and I can appreciate and enjoy!

That is so pretty! Much better than the icky, scratchy, nasty one you get at the hospital!
