Seventh Generation wants to let you know that May is Clean Air and National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month and reminds families that switching up their cleaning routines could help to eliminate many of the triggers that change this sunny and breezy season into one filled with a runny noses and itchy eyes! With headaches, dry eyes, stuffy noses and fatigue being just a few of the symptoms that the 60 million asthma and allergy sufferers in America would like to avoid this spring (Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America), it’s especially important to use non-toxic cleaners that are safe for your family and may help lessen allergy symptoms.
The Environmental Protection Agency has found that indoor levels of air pollution may be two to five times higher than outdoor pollutant levels. The EPA also found that one of the contributing factors to the high levels in of pollution in the home is a result of products used in household cleaning and maintenance. With 63 hazardous chemical products in the average American household (Consumer Product Safety Commission), it’s time for adults to become educated about the respiratory hazards in their homes, in order to protect the health of their families.
Aside from opening windows, an easy way to improve indoor air quality is to clear out the hazardous cleaning chemicals used in the home, as some release toxic fumes when in use and are often scented with fragrances that can be irritating. Avoiding cleaning products displaying warnings like “corrosive,” “harmful” and “irritant” on their labels and replacing them with non-toxic, Eco-friendly ones like Seventh Generation’s Free and Clear line that does not contain any fragrance or dyes, are safer for the family and won’t trigger allergy/asthma symptoms.
Additionally, as a part of its commitment to empowering people with the knowledge of maintaining a healthy, safe home for their family, Seventh Generation teamed up with WebMD and Healthy Child Healthy World to create a free online resource for parents that helps uncover additional hazards in a virtual home and provides resources and information on removal. The tool is called Health eHome and also has the “Health eHome Check,” where parents can test the safety of their home and get personalized results and an action plan.
Meet the Company:
Seventh Generation is committed to becoming the world’s most trusted brand of authentic, safe, and environmentally-responsible products for a healthy home. For 20 years, the closely held Burlington, Vermont-based company has been at the forefront of a cultural change in consumer behavior and business ethics.
One of the country’s first self-declared “socially responsible” companies, Seventh Generation is a business that operates according to a new and different set of principles and values that in many ways are a marked departure from those long considered “traditional.” Its business practice is focused on offering people avenues to express their idealism, passion, and commitment to causes larger than themselves at every point along its supply chain-from suppliers and partners to shareholders, customers and its own staff.
The company derives its name from the Great Law of the Iroquois that states, “In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations.” Every time you use a Seventh Generation product you are making a difference by saving natural resources, reducing pollution, keeping toxic chemicals out of the environment and making the world a safer place for this and the next seven generations.

I agree, you can take your own action by reducing your exposure to toxins. Regular cleaning is imperative and should not fail. Intermittent cleaning as well as a full clean is important. Thanks for the article.
